Black Flag Coaching Standards

This is who we are. This is how we lead. This is how we serve. This is what our athletes deserve.

At Black Flag Strength & Conditioning, coaching is not a role you step into for an hour. It’s a responsibility you carry before class begins, after it ends, and everywhere in between. Our standards are not about perfection—they are about intention, pride, and a relentless commitment to our people.

These principles define what it means to coach at Black Flag.

1. Balance

Great coaching lives in the sweet spot between connection and command.
We don’t just chat—we coach with purpose.
We bring presence, volume, and pride to every session.
Every movement, every word, every moment has intention. Athletes should feel your energy from warm-up to the final rep.

2. Meet & Greet

Be an “80-Minute Coach.” Your job starts before class and continues long after it ends.
Greet every athlete. Smile. Shake hands. Give high-fives.
Make people feel seen, appreciated, and welcome.
Your energy sets the tone—if you’re excited, they will be too.

3. Keep It Positive

Words matter. Choose them wisely.
Gossip doesn’t live here.
If there’s an issue, address it directly—with the athlete or with ownership.
We protect the culture at all costs, because we rise together.

4. Preparation Wins

Professionalism starts before the first athlete walks in.
Equipment is ready. Flow is visualized. Teaching progressions and scaling options are planned.
You own the timeline and respect the clock. Discipline is not restrictive—it’s a sign of excellence.

5. Coach with Compassion

See the class through the athlete’s eyes.
Small details create big breakthroughs.
Call every athlete by name—connection fuels community.
Praise with purpose. Pair encouragement with clear, actionable cues.
You’re not just building stronger athletes—you’re building better people.

6. Stay Sharp

Be the expert, but carry humility.
Knowledge only matters if you can share it simply.
Teach complex movements in clear, powerful language.
Follow the KISS principle: Keep It Simple and Smart.
Never stop learning. Study. Practice. Grow.

7. Pursue Mastery

Excellence is not a destination—it’s a pursuit.
Refine your technical eye. Improve your positional awareness. Sharpen your cues.
Be honest with athletes: if you don’t know something, say so—then go find the answer.
Chase mastery while remaining versatile. Your craft is never finished.

8. Bring the Energy

Coaches don’t stand still—we lead from the front.
Deliver quick, clear corrections, then follow up.
Keep enthusiasm high. Energy is contagious.
If you believe in them, they’ll believe in themselves.

9. Live What You Love

Be fully invested in this community—inside and outside the gym.
Celebrate athletes in person and online. Share their wins.
Follow up with messages of encouragement.
Jump into classes yourself. You’re not just a coach—you’re part of the family.
Believe in what we do, because belief is contagious.

10. Lead by Example

Do it right, every time. Shortcuts kill trust.
Someone is always watching—during class, after class, and beyond the walls of the gym.
Character is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
Lead with integrity, or step aside. Our athletes deserve nothing less.

Our Commitment

At Black Flag, coaching is more than a job—it’s a calling.
Every class is an opportunity to inspire, to educate, and to change lives.

Show up with pride.
Lead with purpose.
Coach with heart.

This is the Black Flag standard.
